The nib says “M” for medium, and the footprint it leaves is about the size as a Platinum Preppy with a 0.5mm nib. If you want a pen that leaves a line about as wide as a standard ballpoint, you should probably look for something with a finer (more narrow) nib, such as a 0.3mm preppy. (Sorry for the odd orientation of the photo; at least you can see the lines of two different pens.)For a red ink, I prefer Diamine Red Dragon, which dries to a rust. This ink in the Pilot Varsity, by contrast, is on the bright side. If that works for you, great. You can use the pen either posted (cap on) or unposted (cap off). I have large hands (wear a large size in mens’ gloves), so I write with it posted.Aside from the nib, the pen is made of plastic, so it feels light, or probably as light as your standard Bic Stick pen. I prefer a heavier pen (my go-to is a Lamy Al-Star, made of aluminum), but the price on this is great.
